Stellaria media, chickweed, is an annual flowering plant in the family Caryophyllaceae.  It is sometimes grown as a salad crop or for poultry consumption.

HOW TO GROW CHICKWEED FROM SEED:

Scatter the chickweed seeds uniformly over the soil’s surface, and then lightly press them into the soil. Since the seeds are tiny, they just need to be covered with a thin layer of soil. Don’t use too much soil because this could prevent the seeds from germinating.

Common CHICKWEED (Stellaria media) is a winter annual that grows easily in gardens, low-maintenance lawns, and agricultural areas.

Chickweed is a plant. The leaf is used to make medicine. People take chickweed for constipation, stomach and bowel problems, blood disorders, asthma and other lung diseases, obesity, a vitamin C deficiency disease called scurvy, a skin condition called psoriasis, rabies, itching, and muscle and joint pain.

Rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, organic chickweed has been praised for its potential health benefits. It can be consumed fresh in salads, used as a tea, or applied topically to the skin. This herb has been utilized in traditional medicine for centuries, particularly for its soothing and healing properties.

Unlike many wild edibles, the chickweed’s stems, leaves, flowers and seeds are all edible. It does hold nitrates and people with allergies to daisies might want to pass it by. Only the Mouse-Ear chickweed should be cooked because of texture issues.

Chickweed tea is naturally caffeine-free. This makes it an excellent choice for individuals looking to avoid caffeine while still enjoying the benefits of a soothing herbal tea. Chickweed tea can be consumed at any time of the day without the risk of disrupting sleep patterns or causing caffeine-related side effects.

Its fiber content helps promote satiety, reducing the likelihood of overeating. Incorporating chickweed into meals or consuming it as a tea can support healthy weight loss efforts.

*SEEDS DISCLAIMER* Most specialty seeds we offer are NOT fast to germinate.  Many take several weeks, months, and some even up towards a year depending on dormancy, region, season etc. It is important that the buyer understands that seeds are perishable products and seed germination can be adversely affected by such factors as mold/fungus, bugs, temperature, moisture content, light intensity, dormancy, care, contamination of planting media among many other reasons.

Germination recommendations are sent with each order and the buyer is free to research and use their own methods. Floating seeds do not always indicate that the seed is not viable. Many times, it is a misconception because the seed does not have the density to sink in water. Accordingly, The Plant Attraction does not guarantee seeds to perform properly regardless of conditions or buyer’s methods or soil/water/lighting.
